PERRY MASON CHARACTERS

Let's start with introduction to main character of Perry Mason series, it's the Perry mason himself. This name was influenced from the creator Gardner's childhood itself. Gardner was big fan of magazine Youth's Companion. It was published in Boston, Massachusetts, by the Perry Mason Company. Gardner borrowed his character name from here and created his own fictional attorney and publicized his favorite childhood magazine.

More detailed information about Mason's character was provided in his earliest novels, but his character became more popular and was interpreted differently in later publications of novels, TV series and movies. The first novel of this series was 'The Case of the Velvet Claws' released in 1933.

Other characters in this series are Della Street who is secretary of Mason. She is very beautiful and dedicated in her work. They both are accompanied by Paul Drake, a suave private detective. Throughout the whole series Paul Drake seems to be Mason's only friend, and Della Street as his only romantic interest but that too unacknowledged. Mason with his two teammates fights cases of his all innocent clients, and wins them successfully against the formidable district attorney Hamilton Burger.

Gardner presents Mason as a lawyer who fights hard for justice on behalf of his clients who are accused to be the criminal, but later are proved innocent due to legal plotting and sharpness of Mason. In some cases he even receives praises even from his antagonist of being as a better detective than a lawyer. Other than his professional life very little is being described about Perry Mason. Nothing is mentioned about his personal life, his family, or about his background or his education. It is clear that he lives in apartment and is alone in his home. From many of the scenes which are shoot at the restaurant one can easily judge about his tastes in food. Some of the occasional car chase scenes also enlighten the fact that he is an excellent driver. Other than that there is very little description about him in novel making it difficult to frame his character clearly in readers mind.
